Prevent Illness in the Workplace

It’s wintertime and many of us will be suffering from colds and of course, the flu.  There are ways to help prevent illnesses from spreading throughout the office.  Let’s try and make it through this winter without getting sick.

  1.  Wash Hands:  Everything is touched in the common workplace.  Door handles, laptops, light switches, drawer handles, keyboards…everything is susceptible to our germs.  Wash your hands regularly during work hours.  Your colleagues will thank you.
  2. Don’t Touch Others:  While you can’t stop your colleagues from sneezing or coughing, you can stop the spread of their colds (and yours) by avoiding handshakes.  Keep your distance, if you can, especially during Winter.
  3. Exercise:  Boost your immune system through a healthier lifestyle.  Eat a balanced diet and always get enough sleep.  Try walking during lunch hour or biking to work, if you can.  You don’t have to go to the gym.  Just 30 minutes a day walking is all you really need.
  4.  Take Time Off:  If you’re sick, take a day off work.  Don’t take your illness to the office.  Stay home and get healthy.  It’s better to have 1 person sick than half the office.  If you have deadlines to meet, ask to work from home while you’re under the weather.

This advice is not going to stop people from getting sick, but it could help prevent the spread of germs in the workplace.  Winter is coming fast!  Stay healthy!  Do your part and help prevent your workplace from spreading germs!
