How Successful is Your Onboarding Process?

Onboarding isn’t just an orientation, it’s an event.  It’s a process.  It’s allows you to convey your organizational brand and values.  It helps to explain your company culture and aligns expectations and performance.  It provides tools for the new hire to successfully enter his or her new position.

The onboarding process is ongoing.  It includes communication, feedback, performance measurements, mentoring, development, consistency, and transition.  New hires are more successful when they are transitioned through an onboarding experience.

If a company has a poor onboarding process, it can lead to an increased turnover rate.  Some resources claim that turnover can be as high as 50% within the first 18 months of employment.

So, if you’re losing employees, have dis-engaged staff members, expect your new hires to leave within 12 months, or have an annual budget for turnover expenses, then you need to develop a more successful onboarding process.
